"I go up there and feel the happiest
I climb because, for me, climbing mountains outside is climbing mountains inside
ultimately, this is all about; it is not about conquering anything, is not about having anything
it is about becoming; each climb does not change you but transforms you; it is all about reinventing yourself (time and time again)."
(Alex Gavan, climber and photographer)
Climbed on Khan Tengri(2004),Cho Oyu(2006), Gasherbrum (2007), and is the First Romanian to reach Makalu(2008), all above 8000m.
The mountain is to Alex Gavan more than just a photo subject. To him, the mountain is the best, the simplest and the most direct way to self discovery and personal reflection. In his quest for the stunning light of dusk and dawn on top of snow-covered ridges, Alex has learnt that the respect for what you do, for your each and every action, can sometimes mean everything, even down to the difference between life and death. Although still very young, Alex Gavan has gained sight of a secret which he gladly shares: sometimes, the ascent to the highest summits leads you to that one place we are all looking for, but which proves to be so hard to find ones true self.
